Once I heard that Monty Oum was in the hospital, I had the absolute worst feeling in my stomach. The way Burnie worded that post only made it worse, I’ve been around the medical field long enough to know just how bleak his outlook was. So, I tried to prepare myself for the worst. I knew there was a good chance that he would pass. I wasn’t going to say anything at all, however, because of how supportive and hopeful the community was, and I was not going to be the one to shatter it. I just silently tried to prepare myself for the worst. But when I heard of his passing, it still hit me like a freight train. I stopped breathing, my heart was racing, it was horrible. Hearing that news was horrible. Seeing so many people, across the lets player community, be upset is horrible. Hearing the RT staff’s first encounters and stories about Monty is bittersweet, and I can only send my condolences to them as well as Monty’s family. Rest in peace Monty Oum.
And like Matt said: “As for honoring Monty, we will do that in our own way. In lieu of flowers or gifts, we ask that you simply do something creative. Use your imagination to make the world a better place in any way that you can. If you know Monty like we do, then you know he would certainly be doing that if he were able to.”
I feel like the last week or so has been a huge change for Roosterteeth. We unfortunately lost Monty, but we’ve gained as well. They’re starting up an LA office. Inside Gaming has left Machinima and has joined the company as Funhaus. One thing ends, another begins. Keep moving forward.
The fact that you can hardly get on the Rooster Teeth site without it crashing from too much traffic is a testament to just how many supporters of Monty there were
Hey so Burnie just posted this and I’m not sure whats going on but the donation site is here.
I’m so proud of Rooster Teeth, honestly. They started out as 5 dudes that reviewed video games while drunk. 12 years later they have the longest running American science fiction series (including television) and the second longest running web series of all time. They made the first American anime exported to Japan. They made a movie. They have an LA office now. They just held Let’s Play Live which was a massive success. They have one of the most popular podcasts in the world. They’ve raised millions for charity. They have their own annual convention. They’ve made video games. They’ve made a cartoon. In 12 years they’ve done that.

”I am trying, too” - Sheena, wife of Monty Oum
On February 1st, 2015, the beloved Monty Oum passed away, fighting for his life after a severe allergic reaction during a medical procedure.
We love you Monty.
June 22nd, 1981 - February 1st, 2015.
Today will mark one year since the Rooster Teeth has lost a great animator. Monty Oum was, in my opinion, one of the greatest animators of our generation. We all miss him greatly but he would want us to remember him by celebrating the things he did and by being creative ourselves. A new project called @montyoumproject can put it into better words than I can. Keep Moving Forward all, and we will be okay.
