the best thing about Beyond is that it is really uplifting and positive. it’s message is a message of togetherness and how we are stronger united. the future can be bright and good and we can make it that way

Can I just say I really love how colorful the Star Trek Beyond posters are? And I love that they pay homage to the original movie posters? I feel like it was a visual cue that they were trying to return to the movies’ original campy feel and I think this movie was a lot closer to it’s roots than the other two by far, and this movie just completely felt different than the first two. It triggered a much larger nostalgia reaction this time around and while it was still action packed, it just felt like one of the original movies and aaah I just loved this one so much. It’s easily my favorite of the reboots.
TBH my favorite part of beyond is Kirk coming back from being attacked by the little dog alien things and is like “i ripped my shirt again :c”

So, I know Suicide Squad won best makeup, but can we just take a moment to appreciate the makeup in Star Trek Beyond anyway? I mean, just look at these:
First off, Kalara. The color gradient and the ridges are just gorgeous.
For Natalia, who only even in this one scene, they had to create super-light prostheses, AND they used a new iridescent, color-shifting pigment that had never been used in makeup before.
Those lights on Krall? They’re not CG. They imbedded fiber optics into the prosthesis.
And Jaylah. Wonderful Jaylah, they made a “bulletproof” makeup formula that won’t bleed at all and then APPLIED ALL OF THOSE LINES BY HAND.

I went to see Star Trek Beyond again the other day and I noticed something that I hadn’t before: the escape pods on the bridge of the Enterprise were specifically called Kelvin pods. At every other point, crew referred to escape pods until the bridge crew specifically began to evacuate. We saw the pods after ejection: escape pods were larger, presumably could fit multiple crew members (going by previous Trek history, really, and the size and number that we glimpsed), and had to be got to. The Kelvin pods were streamlined, single person carriers and built straight into the walls of the bridge. Accessible from any point in that space, effectively.
‘Kelvin pods’ or their equivalent haven’t been seen before in Star Trek (as far as I know) and definitely have never been referred to before in the Kelvin timeline. The USS Kelvin bridge crew had to leave the bridge to evacuate, and George Kirk had no point of escape after he set the ship on its fatal collision post. Given the name of these pods, it’s safe to say that these were installed after that incident to ensure that no Starfleet officer would ever have to go down with his ship in that way. Had there been pods in the bridge, George Kirk would have been likely to survive.
And I think that this is a thought that occurred to Kirk as he stood there, watching his ship be ripped apart too logn after the last of his crew (darling Checkov) had abandoned ship. As he lingered and made that decision to go. To live. To save his crew like his father would.
