I wanna tell you about the Big Thing that used to be about 5 minutes from where my mum lives now. It was the Big Bull and it was 14 metre tall bull that I think was about 2 or 3 storeys inside. I remember you could look out its eyeball. It had a museum inside about dairy and beef and stuff, and there was a restaurant/gift store on one side of it and a barn on the other side. In the barn was a petting zoo kind of thing with lots and lots of different animals.
some more fun facts about the Big Bull:
*It was anatomically correct. By which I mean it had gigantic, swinging testicles, that swung around in the wind. I dont know what they were made off. There was a picnic table under its stomach and it was a custom of 90s kids to jump up off the table and try to catch/hang off the balls. This was so dangerous that they had to enforce a rule against jumping up to grab the balls. Kids did it anyway.
*If you grew up in this town you had been to at least one birthday party at this place and you knew at least one kid who brought home a kitten from the petting zoo without asking their parents. To this day I have no idea if the owners cared if kids were taking the kittens or if they were even allowed to, or if the kittens were even supposed to be there to begin with.
*the restaurant, museum and petting zoo closed some time in the early/mid 00s but the bull was standing there until 2007, when it was finally pulled down and set on fire. This is a huge tragedy because as you can see from its majesty it should have been allowed to stand there and stare off across the hills for eternity. Maybe now that there was no one to supervise it they didn’t want kids to keep trying to catch its balls.
