I really like The Good Doctor because the main character, Shaun, is autistic. And visibly autistic. He has trouble speaking, he doesn’t make eye contact, he misses social queues and struggles to relate to people sometimes. The character is written really well, it does a really good job of portraying the characteristics of someone with autism and fucking finally it’s a tv show that doesn’t romanticize his autism. It’s not perfect, I know, but it’s a breath of fresh air after having a lot of piss-poor representations of characters with disabilities like autism. And it also makes me happy because the main character is still able to operate and live on his own and be a fully functional adult with autism.
