I’m kinda drunk so bare with me.
It’s really difficult to word the way I want it to but I agree. I hate that when a popular person asks a disabled child to prom they’re seen as “brave” and “heroic” when in reality this isn’t about the popular person. People always make it about the popular person. It’s not. It’s about a disabled kid that usually wouldn’t get an opportunity to shine like this. People always focus on and applaud the other person for asking a disabled person to prom/a dance/whatever. But it’s about the other person. It’s about them getting to shine and have fun. And it’s not the popular person’s fault, either. Most of the time they have a similar mindset where they want a disabled kid to have something special. I hate that the media always focuses on the able bodied person instead. It’s not about them. Stop putting the spotlight on them.
