i mean. for the city council members who are pledging to re-appoint the same representatives. yes. this is indeed why government matters on every level. this is exactly why its important to vote in your local elections.
except GOTV campaigns are not necessarily stopping the power structure from ignoring social movements or even literally removing state representatives from the legislature. the defense of those legislators literally can’t be accomplished with GOTV if the state party has effectively made itself permanently in power through gerrymandering and racist politics. getting out the vote has a place in this, as you’ve outlined, but responding to this with “just vote” is woefully inadequate at best...
oh 100%, I know and I agree. but i dont see how you get “just vote” (as in, dont do anything else) from a tweet that says ‘this is why even local elections matter.’ Maybe I’m missing some context about who Olivia Julianna is?
GOTV campaigns tend to get disproportionate time and nationwide resources poured in to them as compared to other, local organizing efforts based on relative likelihood of these efforts to accomplish substantive policy goals. (surprise, surprise). However, making fun of every tweet that mentions voting doesn’t help divert attention back toward other more direct ways of putting political/social power in the hands of the people. Instead, it just feels defeatist. The sentiment that voting doesnt do anything, expressed alone and without alternatives, leads* people who dont know what else they could do for their communities to just give up and Also not vote.
* at the margins - I’m not trying to claim one tumblr post has a statistically significant effect on peoples behavior, but any post has the potential to be viewed outside your immediate circle (general “you”) and divorced from any context about who you are and what youre doing in your community

THIS IS WHY GOVERNMENT MATTERS ON EVERY LEVEL!!
THIS IS WHY YOU VOTE IN EVERY. SINGLE. ELECTION.
.
Olivia Julianna is Director of Politics and Government Affairs at Gen Z For Change:
Which nonprofit has several more initiatives than just mobilizing voters. As one might guess from the below headlines, which feature the same Olivia Julianna, and the NPR article is from last summer, it's over two point three million dollars now:
Dragging people for saying voting is the only useful political tool is valid. Dragging people for saying voting is a vastly underutilized political tool is not. Dragging Olivia Julianna for saying that? Fuck right the fuck off!
why do republicans blame everything on liberals, especially if it makes NO sense like “oh sorry i eat green olives on pizza, probably because im not a pissbaby liberal” what does that even mean harold
Remember back in 2011 when Obama had GOP members over for dinner, and he served so many peas that the republicans made him eat their servings, and a bunch of cartoonists argued about who made whom eat peas?
what the fuck
Legit, I was reading through these comics like “ are the peas supposed to represent the issues in our country?”, then you fuckin tell me “nah bro Obama just served a lot of peas at dinner.”. You have to be joking.
Um…at the risk of sounding snobby here: Do the elitist GOP get that the house doesn’t even look that good?
Not that I’m judging: I grew up in some mediocre places too. It’s fine, and there are certainly worse places. I agree with her: It was likely fine to grow up in.
But it’s a pretty mundane and rundown. By any standards.
But it’s a standing house. So apparently, per the Republicans, she’s a limousine liberal.
No, seriously: The guy is presenting the house like it’s a grand frigging $10 million dollar mansion or something.
44% of Republicans, 24% of independents, 19% of Democrats think Bill Gates’ vaccine research is a ploy to implant microchips in people, a conspiracy that more broadly has been around for decades.
This is what happens when people are rightfully suspicious of the intentions of the elite while the only major cultural outlet for that distrust is partisan disinfo campaigns operating in The Paranoid Style, rather than actual populism
republicans wanna jerk off to how awesome and epic the founding fathers were while the founding fathers would absolutely hate them for what they’ve done to american politics

Idk it doesn’t really matter. Some people think they were Russians imitating liberals in a propaganda move to divide liberals and conservatives even more but some people also think its tumblr being racist because a lot of these blogs were BLM and Antifas which is useless because them being liberal could be used as “evidence” for either side and it’s just stupid. I wasn’t involved, I never got the email, so I have no opinion on the matter
HEY KIDS
There’s a new terribly designed and incredibly biased GOP survey out!
You know what to do.
Go fuck it up, guys.
pro-life republicans: baby killing is bad!! save the BABIES!1!!11!!
people with common sense: okay….. so please don’t take away healthcare from 24 million people, including pregnant women and sick children….
