We’ve been getting smoke from the west coast here in Michigan on and off for a week or so now and I didn’t wanna sound crazy but I swear I can smell it sometimes, this gross burnt-plastic-y smell and it’s been giving me headaches and then my mom was like “I think I’m smelling the wildfire smoke??” and described the same smell so at least I’m not crazy

It’s so fascinating how we’re entering this age of bio-hacking, biopunk, and transhumanism and there’s this legitimate effort to create the first generation of posthumans. I have neodymium implants in my fingers and now I can feel electricity. (A leftover from working with robotics and, especially, electric wiring). There are eye drops that give you temporary night vision. Under the right conditions, you can create bioluminescent skin. You can do gene sequencing in your own home now if you have the right tools. There’s all these people, Grinders and DIYBio scientists who’ve created garage laboratories where all of this is happening. Of course it’s scary because there’s this fear of elitism and ableism if this trade falls into the wrong hands but… 20 years ago there were computer hackers and now we’re coming into an age where there’s human hackers and its amazing as fuck. I wrote sci-fi stories about this as a kid, thinking I’d never live to see this age come to fruition and it’s happening right now.
