My classmates and the younger professors are fine. I’m the PR / Social Chairperson of our SPS and so I handle basically all the scheduling for the undergrads, talk profs into helping us, negotiate with observatories and field trip people. I’ve earned their respect as the undergrad physics mom because I get shit done. I actually told the department chair when to schedule our astronomy classes so that they would work with everyone’s schedule and so I was the communicator between the undergrads and the faculty about scheduling. I’m actually usually the communicator between the students and the faculty and so I’ve earned both side’s respect through confidence and persistence. That and I landed one of the best research positions here so that has perks too lol.
Pacific Rim has a Build-Your-Own-Jaeger feature on their website. Some folks haven’t taken it as seriously as I suspect the PR folks thought they would.

I ACTUALLY KNOW EXACTLY HOW THIS HAPPENED.
When typing up the instructions, the pharmacist or technician was probably using shorthand in the computer, which automatically translates into text a patient can understand. The shorthand for this would have originally been ‘2 pfs po q4h prn hs’, where ‘prn’ stands for ‘as needed’. And there was a typo, so ‘prn’ became ‘pr’, which stands for ‘per rectum’ (aka rectally). I’ve done this myself on accident with ‘diabetes’ (DIAB) and ‘diarrhea’ (DIA), as well as prn and pr.
…And that was your medical jargon lesson for the day, kiddies.
Look I get that Tumblr is a big site but their terrible PR as well as a terrible blocking system as well as the actual worst automated content screening I’ve ever seen really, really holds it back from being successful. There are actual Nazis and pedophiles and beastiality here and NONE OF IT trips the Community Violations sensors. Meanwhile, I tried to upload a video of my new kitten the other day, and it got removed for “sexually explicit content”. This has happened multiple times to multiple people. The programming on this site is so terrible and broken and the support team is even worse, helpful-wise and personality wise. Do you have any idea how many times I’ve had to email @support over the years and I’ve got either a rude and condescending response back, or even more annoying, nothing at all? (Going back to the video of my cat, I sent in an appeal 3 days ago because I don’t want a mark - a faulty especially - against my blog. I haven’t heard back and doubt that I will at all). When people have to use secondary apps to make the website functional to suit the users needs (looking at you xkit, and before that, missing e.) Other websites aren’t like this. Other websites don’t try to market a half-built and poorly coded website to its users. They put effort in, and as a result they get a thriving and loyal user base. Tumblr is a pretty big site, but it could be so much better if the @staff gave half a shit about its users.
