Hey so the Epoch Times are sending out sample sections of their paper that are ostensibly inocuous but have disgusting subtext. They’re like the print form of Fox News but even more conspiratorial. They make “timelines” of “Spygate” or China manufacturing and releasing COVID and they promote holistic bunk in their health section. It’s poisonous.
The sample I got was basically a summary of a conservative book that implied Gen Z was failing despite “unprecedented economic prosperity” because they’ve been “coddled” as children and now suffer from mood disorders that are really just unexamined character flaws.
For one, Millennials and Gen Z don’t disproportionately suffer from mood disorders, they’re just more likely to have it diagnosed for various reasons like the declining stigma around having a mental health problem.
But they also don’t live in “prosperity” at all. A huge amount of 17-year-olds either take on over a hundred thousand dollars of debt or are tricked into killing other poor people because they’ve been taught that only the military deserve free healthcare. They’re told to get a bachelor’s degree to help with their job prospects but then they’re told they weren’t actually educated and were indoctrinated with liberal values so your degree is worthless. We have low unemployment, sure, but besides being arbitrary, it doesn’t say anything about under-employment. The minimum wage is no longer a living wage because inflation has greatly outpaced wages for a while. Younger generations recognize the dangers of climate change but are gaslighted by industry telling them the problem can be solved by personal responsibility but at the same time the people who can actually make a difference are choosing not to. In a time of unprecedented connection, people are becoming less globalist and more xenophobic and nationalistic.
It’s a paradox born out of wanting it both ways: the economy is great but a lot of people are failing, it must be a character flaw that makes them fail regardless of how easy it is to succeed. It’s nefarious and it’s trying to get a foot in the door so more people can get desensitized to the creep of fascism. Don’t fall for it, protect our elders from being manipulated.

In 2007, archaeologists discovered the 2,200-year-old remains of a man with a deformed knee attached to a prosthetic leg tipped with a horse hoof, in a tomb in Turpan, China. They uncovered that the man’s leg was extremely deformed with the patella, femur, and tibia fused together at an 80 degrees angle with the prosthetic leg attached. Wear indicated that the prosthetic had been used for a prolonged period.
