Ridiculously honored to have been able to do today’s doodle for Sally Ride’s 64th birthday. First female US astronaut, first LGBT astronaut, youngest astronaut to date, physicist, professor, author, and champion of interesting STEM programs for kids, especially girls.

I don’t respect the way the military is run in the US but I do respect anyone who served. There’s a difference
I don’t respect the system, but I DO respect people who were forced into that system against their will and witnessed atrocities and suffer from ptsd.
This is exactly how yall should be doing it coming from a military kid that hates the military.
Please appreciate and hold respect for the fact that people WANT to potentially die for this country- any country that allows volunteers, really! However, it’s totally okay not to like the military system itself because THAT’S what’s corrupt, not the people just following orders, considering a lot of people in the military are also doing it because they’re poor and needed a job that can give you a pretty decent wage.
It’s a corrupt job but it provides real benefits and safety nets for many people. It’s honorable that people care enough to die for it too.
I respect the soldiers, I do not respect the system.

Idk but I’m the same way. I babysit a lot and kids love me! And I’ll color with them, watch their ‘fashion shows’, treat them with the respect they deserve and get excited with them about the silly things they get excited about, validate their feeling etc. but it still don’t mean I like them. This is not a little doodle. This. THIS. This is fucking MAGIC. You have captured pure wonder and whimsy and romance and bliss and that almost melancholy wholeness when you look up at the sky and just feel the smallness of your being and the grandness of the universe. All this captured with a lover’s eye. We cannot see her face but I feel the tender passionate ardour for this petite but mighty creature in the world. While at the same time I feel the bittersweet swoon of wanting to be gazed upon myself with such whole and overwhemling admiration and love. It is goddamn masterful.

I’ve put in literally every ounce of my heart and soul over the past two years as Creative Lead for today’s Google Doodle. Partnering with Japanese animation studio Studio4°C (!!!) and working with an *incredibly* dedicated, creative, open, inspiring team at Google to make a love letter to Japanese 16-bit video games that inspired me and so many.
The list is too long but thank you to all the folks who helped to make this INSANE doodle a reality.
Calling this a dream project is an understatement, I felt like I trained my whole life for this.
