YouTube White Noise copyright claims test by Sebastian Tomczak
A 10 hour video of just white noise has triggered automated copyright claims from several copyright owners who then profit from lending out their supposed intellectual property. Gizmodo comments: “ the absurdity of someone claiming ownership of a bunch of frequencies with equal intensity playing simultaneously—that’s all white noise is—clearly illustrates just how beyond broken YouTube’s automated copyright system really is.“

But now I’m wondering how all these facial recognition algorithms we’re coming up with now are going to take to the Bright New Transhumanist Future
Like, okay, we know Google can recognise dogs. But what about stranger things? Is anyone training these things on lizards?
Imagine basilisks specifically designed to crash these algorithms: abstract-blocks-of-black-and-white-for-heads that, like the QR codes of old, carry a hidden message in their patterning, only it’s a payload, a virus that shreds the system of anyone who tries to capture it on camera, the natural evolution of anti-face-detection camouflage. Imagine things that don’t even have faces, that don’t have an equivalent and easily-cataloguable part; people who deliberately wear mass-produced, identical android bodies, the Guy Fawkes masks of the future.
It’s a thing! Turns out, people would rather not look stupid than not be caught by facial recognition.
Somehow they look exactly like you would expect cyperpunk protagonists trying to avoid detection by facial recognition software to look.

Robots can do just about anything better than humans can (spare for a few more artistically involved things) but the one thing I’ll always pick human over computer is music stations. I like pandora and the music genome project but there’s just something missing from it that radio DJs can pick out that the genome project cannot. The project uses algorithms for similar bands and songs and pieces together something personal but it just can’t do it as good as humans can
Incels and other sexist men can’t see a woman doing something incredible without fuming and trying to discredit her. They’re now dissing on Katie Bouman, who helped write one of the algorithms that got us the black hole picture, saying she was just an assistant (they don’t know what assistant professor is), and using Andrew Chael, her colleague in the Event Horizon Telescope team who helped write one of the codes, as ~the true person behind the codes who is being erased by this anti-men society~ or whatever. They’re even saying crap like “lmao women really don’t do shit”. Andrew took to Twitter himself to call bullshit on that.
If y'all can spread this thread to counter such narrative it’d be great.
