Not sure if this is helpful information or applies to you, but most hospitals are non profits. So technically they are legally required to reduce the amount you owe based on your annual income usually if you look under their financial assistance page you can see how much you qualify for they usually have a table. Depending on your income you might not have to pay at all.
The hospital I went to, which is also the hospital both of my parents have worked 40+ collective years at, is a christian for profit hospital and it’s fucking shitty because it’s well known for letting expectant mothers die horrible painful deaths instead of performing abortions
