They didn't write the Mario movie and say "you know who would be perfect to play Mario? Chris Pratt!" No, they picked Chris Pratt for marketability and name recognition and wrote a new Mario around him. I guarantee you this version of Mario will sound and act identical to every other Chris Pratt character; they all have the exact same sense of humor, the same dopey confidence, they all feel like they were written by the same person for the same purpose. You don't cast Chris Pratt, you typecast him. He's not playing Mario, he's playing himself in red overalls.
for years now hollywood’s tendency to do precisely this has been referred to in my house as “the bill murray effect”; when a comedian is cast to act like himself with a new hat on in film after film after film. Sometimes one movie is good, but as soon as you see an interview and learn that that wasn’t a character it’s just what he always acts like, it ruins them all
