Since there’s literally hundreds of people on my blog because SOMEONE posted it to Facebook: I met him at orientation. I won’t have his class until August. I’m not writing that paper.
Also: I don’t want that post on Facebook. No one asked for my consent, and I had to be told via some kind person in my ask box. I can’t comment on the post on Facebook because I don’t want my family knowing about my Tumblr account but I don’t approve of it being up there.
And for literally everyone misgendering me on that Facebook post: I am not a man.
[Image: Tweet by Emily Mullin (@EmilyLMullin) and tweet by Isobelle Winter (@IsobelleWinter), both about the dangers of Facebook’s new preventative health screening tool. Images have been modified for visual ease but information has not been changed.]
Something to know about Facebook’s new “screening tool,” and advice/info that can most certainly be used outside of this specific situation.
For spoonies, the biggest deal is how this data, if leaked, could affect you in professional and insurance spheres.
Here’s Emily’s full thread, which discusses the details of the tool, and here’s Isobelle’s full thread, which extrapolates on specific dangers.
In the end? It’s another data grab. Data is worth money; don’t give yours away, especially not to Facebook.
PLEASE SIGNAL BOOST this shit is scary.
did everyone just forget the whole Facebook/Cambridge Analytica using personality quizzes to gather data on people and then use it to influence elections thing or what

Guys I found the only good thing on Facebook.
[Image description:
The original post has two screenshots from Facebook. All profile pictures and names are blocked out by rectangles of different colors to indicate different users.
The first image uses light blue in place of the user. It reads, “light blue invited you to join the private group A group where we all pretend to be ants in an ant colony.”
The second image shows a post on this group’s page. The same light blue color from before posts, “We reached the center of the earth. Now what?” Four comments, all different user colors, spell out different words in all caps with a space between each letter. These words are “scurry” “dig” “work” “melt”
The reblog has two more pictures taken from the same ant-themed Facebook group. User information is now scribbled out in different colors, rather than using neat rectangles.
The first picture shows a post that says, “It has come to my attention that when we put the spaces in-between letters it makes it difficult for visually impaired ants to know what we’re saying and so I was wondering if we could try to make this group more accessible for them.
(The text to voice can’t figure out what we are saying with the spaces)
(Picture for attention)”
Beneath is a close up picture of an ant.
The second picture shows the comments on this post. Each word is spelled out in all caps, but with no spaces between the letters. The words are “adapt, adapt, inclusion, love, adapt, adapt.” Each word is posted by a different user except for “love” and one of the “adapts”

Just for some context, this facebook post is not out of the ordinary for the Herald. They post weird stuff all the time?
