Of note: that first one is from Gankutsuou (loosely based on The Count of Monte Cristo), and it’s pretty much an entire series dedicated to experimenting with this aesthetic (it also happens to be a fantastic series; highly recommended!)
Gankutsuo has it all, Good art, gay vampires, good music, space sex??? (maybe) , and mechs. It’s great.

my favorite things about the show chowder
- all the characters had food names but the actual food had made up names
- the way the patterns stayed in the same place while the characters moved
- the visual puns and 4th wall breaking
- the voice acting
