This is a bit tame, but once I was talking to my dad about elf on the shelf and how awful it is as a concept. Hes like, "oh your cousin tim does elf on a shelf for his kids" and I respond with "yeah well, tim also got divorced, so I'm not sure hes the best model for a healthy family"
