I took Albuterol before work last night and it makes me all jittery and shaky and more than one person was like "calm down its okay" and it just now occured to me that they probably thought Albuterol was an anxiety medication and not... an inhaler for bronchitis
I had to take a different inhaler for my allergies and asthma, one with a steroid in it. It fucked me up something else. I was getting heart palpitations daily. It was scary as shit.
Albuterol can do that too. Feels like an anxiety attack except you can actually breathe
Damn, I only had to take abuterol as an emergency inhaler (like if I was going to work out or it was an extra high pollen count day). They tested me again after a couple of months and said I don't have asthma so I can stop all medicines. Which like... doesn't make sense, shouldn't I have continued to since my asthma issues were being controlled???
I'm not an RT or anything (my dad is though so I know a little) but it depends on like what kind of asthma they diagnosed you with and stuff I think?
I've had asthma all my life, and an albuterol inhaler from when I was a kid to adulthood. When I was a kid, my asthma was a lot worse, but the albuterol never gave me the jitters like it does today, when my asthma is so much better comparatively. No idea how that works.
Albuterol loosens the muscles in your lungs and somehow that translates to how it works with your nervous system and it can cause tremors. Not sure how relaxation of muscle walls exactly come around to making you involuntarily do the cha cha but hey
Med student here
Albuterol is a beta2 receptor agonist which basically means it binds to them and makes the airway smooth muscle relax
Now the thing is the airway is not the only place where beta 2 receptors exists
There are also beta 2 receptors on some skeletal muscle which causes the tremors you mentioned
This is why it’s not recommended to take beta blockers (heart medication) if you have asthma because they will block the beta 2 receptors in the lungs as well causing the airways to be blocked
