Not suprisingly I have seen nothing about this man on here because he’s not some American hero or a hate crime against minority races
but this man died today and he was a British person who organised the rescue of 669 children destined for Nazi concentration camps. He arranged for trains to carry Jewish children out of occupied Prague.
He worked to find British families willing to put up £50 to look after the boys and girls in their homes.
Sir Nicholas was knighted by the Queen in March 2003. His work has been likened to that of the “saviour” of Jewish prisoners Oskar Schindler
Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis praised Sir Nicholas’ “exceptional courage, selflessness and modesty”.
“He lived to see thousands of descendants of those whose lives he saved who were proud to call themselves members of his family, and who were inspired by his example to undertake outstanding charitable, humanitarian and educational initiatives,“
today he passed away at the age of 106 in his sleep.

In doing so, she destroyed several machine gun nests and German artillery. It wasn’t long until the Germans figured out that her tank was the one they needed to really worry about.
The Germans immediately started focusing their gunfire on her medium Mariya-Vasilievna-Oktyabrskayasized tank, temporarily crippling it. Mariya didn’t sell all her worldly possessions just so she could sit around in a crippled tank. She was determined to get her vengeance. She leaped out of her tank into a hail of gunfire and started patching it back together so that she could charge even further into the enemy lines.
A month later Mariya found herself in the middle of night raid when her tank was hit by an artillery shell severing the tracks on her tank. She once again jumped out of her tank and started repairing the tracks while her gun crew provided covering fire. A few days later and a little worse for wear, she rejoined the fight.
Mariya Vasilyevna Oktyabrskaya was the first female tanker to be awarded the Hero Of The Soviet Union award; the Soviet Union’s highest award for bravery during combat.

On Armistice Day I have read a number of articles about the World Wars, this is up with the best I have ever read, up there with Bill Millin who played the pipes as he landed on the beaches of Normandy, of Mad Jack Churchill who captured 42 Germans armed with only a sword and the Kilted Killer, Tommy Macpherson who accepted the surrender of 23,000 men and 1,000 vehicles to the Allied forces he pretended to have under his command.
