My dad grew up in the 50s so he was always kinda weird about shit I couldn’t do as a kid. I couldn’t call my male friends because a girl calling a boy wasn’t “proper”. I had to go to bed at 8:00pm. A bunch of restrictive stuff.

One day in about 8th grade, dad told me I shouldn’t call my guy friend so we could study for a test. I just looked at him and pressed the call button anyway, and then left on my bike to his house about a mile away (also not allowed). No repercussions.

Another thing was once I was in freshman year of high school, my bedtime was moved to 9:00pm. I was watching TV with dad. It passed 9 and I just stayed on the couch and finished watching the movie that was on. He just let it go and I never had a bedtime again.

Basically the entire process of getting rites of passage as I grew was my dad telling me not to do something and me being like
