I hate how when someone starts their period for the first time adults are always like “You’re all grown up now!!!!! You’re a real woman now!!!!!!!!” Like hi bitch that is an 11 year old child. Their bedtime is 9pm and their favorite tv show is spongebob
and then they gotta go fucking tell everyone. like “oh hello person i haven’t seen in three years! my DAUGHTER is BLEEDING from HER UTERUS NOW! SHE can physically carry children now! isn’t that exciting and an appropriate topic to discuss with people my child doesn’t know?”
My mom for real wanted to have a party and would get mad at me when I didn’t tell her I started every month like wtf relax freak
whats rlly fascinating to me is that kids have been starting periods earlier and earlier? apparently they used to skew more towards 15ish and now they start as early as like 9? like not that it was great to call a 15 year old a whole adult either, but it's so fuckin interesting to me.
like back in the day it was def more of a marker of approaching adulthood bc you were just on average a bit older when it happened, so it happened to line up better and be culturally more of a celebration of approaching marriageable age (again, still not great cause afab ppl are not just wifey baby machines, but agewise less creepy) whereas with the much younger averages now its RLLY CREEPY but culturally we dont seem to have caught up to that biological change.
like youd think ppl would stop and take a step back and realize hey thats a whole child? traditions are weird.
I believe that would be due health reasons. Being malnourished can cause periods to start later or not occur at all and generally speaking as health standards worldwide improve, it can cause people, particularly afab people, to begin puberty at a younger age.
