Hi I saw your post about birth control pills and have some tips. Of course everyone's situation is different but if you are sexually active and taking a birth control pill, these are from my experience.
DO NOT HAVE UNPROTECTED SEX IN THE FIRST MONTH ON THE PILL. I am assuming that you are taking a once daily hormonal birth control pill, and those aren't fully effective until AFTER you've been taking them for at least a month. (Whether you choose to use condoms after that is recommended but totally up to you and your partners. And some people are on the pill for reasons other than preventing pregnancy so if that's you then disregard)
Also, many of these prescriptions come with a little paper/pamphlet that gives you more information. Along with your prescriber, this can give you good knowledge about the specific medication.
1. Please be check in with your body and monitor for side effects. Hormones are no joke and impact everyone differently, but the good news is that if you have a symptom that is bothering you your doctor can put you on a different pill. Example: my doctor helped me try a different pill when I noticed my mood was a little worse on a certain pill.
2. The info paper may say that the pill is (example) 99% effective at preventing pregnancy BUT that efficacy rate is ONLY IF YOU TAKE THE PILL EVERY DAY AND AT THE SAME TIME EVERY DAY. If you skip days that can increase your risk of getting pregnant, and so can taking it really irregularly (in the morning one day then at night the next). This is because it stops working as soon as it isnt in your system so if there are gaps of time where your body is without, you can still get pregnant. I know several people who set an alarm on there phone each day to remind them to take their pill.
The most important thing is that you are advocating for yourself and doing what is best for you and your health💗
I'm sorry this was so long and for the record totally not professional medical advice, just my own experience. But most important is, if you have questions or worries it is always good to ask your doctor. Anyway I hope this helps, its mostly stuff I wish I had been told 💗💖💗💖Stay safe and have a wonderful day!!
Thank you!! And yeah I planned on using condoms too in at least the first 2 weeks but a month makes sense too
