I've had people I thought were my friends get upset about a joke, similar to the ones told about my religion but reversed, and immediately told to die in an oven before they even realized they said it. In my now ancient age of older than 25 when I hear those things, yes it's still a bit jarring and scary to hear at first, but it brings me joy to smile and say "well he failed at that goal too". Or maybe if they're particularly mean, I'll say "but he didn't, and now I'm here. And I'll keep living just to spite you and remind you he's a failure". As for what to do about living with them, if you can put up with it for a year and then move out, go for it. If not, go with what Kaijuno suggested. I'm sorry you have to deal with this though, and I hope things work out in your favor
