Bad
Yesterday while out the mall I walked by Hot Topic and in the window was this sweatshirt:

“That is pretty neat,” I thought. “as someone who likes both Rick and Morty and tie dye, I am vaguely interested in buying that.”
But then my senses came to me. As I stood at the window, H&M purchases in one hand and my phone in the other I suffered an Scrubs-like internal monologue.
“What are you doing Max, you can’t wear that to school. It would ruin your reputation as a pretentious boarding school educated Andy Warhol enthusiast. You would be roasted to a crisp. The lads would laugh you into extinction. Even the guys who like Rick and Morty. And if your Tumblr audience saw you wearing that you would be burned to a crisp.”
“But you love that show. That shirt would look great with your overalls. You like Rick and Morty. You wasted several days of your life binge-watching it. When have you ever cared what people thought? Your apathy is your defining feature. Besides, it isn’t as though you create Rick and Morty Musicallys and write incest fanfiction. It’s a shirt. A shirt you like. Buy it, you have money.”
I took two confident steps towards the entrance before I stopped.
“What if while you’re wearing it someone walks up to you and simply says “I’m Pickle Rick!” What will you do? You will punch them. You will be arrested for assault and spend two years in prison. Your life will be ruined. The conviction will mean you cannot get a job. You will have nothing but the shirt on your back. A Rick and Morty shirt.”
I didn’t buy it.

everyone’s entitled to their own opinion
but their opinion is wrong
thought the picture in the bottom right was an ass at first
loss.jpg for people who watch rick and morty
Working at hot topic is so fucking surreal
I made this post because today two guys came into the store and one kept purposely referencing Rick and Morty, while the other had never seen the show and the first guy was trying to make it seem like an awful thing that guy 2 had never seen it and was thinking he was superior for knowing a bunch of useless facts about the show. Meanwhile guy 2 looked visibly uncomfortable. While his was happening, some girls were arguing saying “you can’t be a fan of supernatural if you’ve only seen 4 seasons”.
I felt like I was living out a fucking tumblr post and I’m only keeping this job to get a discount on jeans
RICK AND MORTY WASNT SUPPOSED TO BE EMOTIONAL WHAT THEF UCK
Look I love Rick and Morty to pieces, but its one of Those Shows…every time I meet someone who also likes it im like “ok…are you a ‘this show depicts messed up people doing bad things but it has a lot to offer stylistically and writing wise’ fan or are you a ‘i completely missed the point of this show and the only parts I like are the ones that I’ve twisted into validating my messed up world view’ fan?”
You’re either a “I also enjoy bobs burgers” fan of rick and morty, or a “I enjoy and have never once been critical of South Park” fan of rick and morty". No substitutions.
THIS
THIS IS WHY RICK AND MORTY FANS MAKE ME WARY.
Because it’s a good show but it also has “Smart-ass White Dude Totally Pwns Everyone and Tells It Like It Is ™ and Gets Away With It” so of course there’s the maladjusted Edgy Boys that can watch it who are never challenged in any way and don’t realize how flawed Rick is. Because honestly, he isn’t. He’s like Cartman; a protagonist character that acts out the inner desires of the creators and they try to deflect by saying “oh no, you’re not supposed to admire this character, he’s supposed to be an asshole!
This is exactly what I’m getting at! While rick gets away with a lot, its shown to be an unstable way to live with a lot of consequences involved. He couldn’t stay with Unity because she felt he would corrupt her. He’s alienated Morty because of the way he’s mistreated him. He leaves a trail of destruction where ever he goes and the only solution is to never look back or continually be faced with the consequences…and even when he tries to put it behind him it still tends to catch up in one way or another.
Though I feel that sometimes Rick’s characterization can lean towards wish fulfillment, the show is consistent about pushing the idea that Rick’s behavior doesn’t do anyone any favors, even himself. He isn’t exactly evil but he’s not to be idolized either - he just is who he is, for better or worse
(although Rick is Hispanic/latino as confirmed by the audio commentary of auto erotic assimilation [ https://youtu.be/fYTzg-9yjxk , 14:49], but he’s certianly written like this particular kind of white guy and white guys definetly project on him)
