Just to counter the BS narrative from that other person, government doesn’t suck. OUR government sucks, but that’s partly because we expect it to. And take it from someone who refuses to ask for help from anyone, even when I can’t deny I could really use it: being able to depend on people and institutions is GOOD, perhaps the optimal outcome of human society. Engaging with it in ways like you are—REQUIRING that it care about you—is how we make it all better.
