So back in 2016 there was this massive fire where I lived in Fort McMurray, Alberta. You can google it and find tons of stuff about it, it was crazy.

Anyway, the entire city of about 80k people had to evacuate immediately. No time to pack, no time for anything, just get your family and get the fuck out. Now, I'm usually a very anxious person who doesn't handle stressful situations very well, but....I can't explain it well?

It felt like it wasn't real. None of it felt like it was actually happening. The whole time I was oddly calm about it, and it felt like I was watching a disaster movie or something it was so weird. About, idk, 4 hours later the shock settled in, but in the moment I was just watching myself go through the movements. It still doesn't feel real sometimes.

Anyway, yeah, disassociating during crisis moments. Same.

I think it’s a built in survival technique that’s leftover from our unga bunga days
