Every time I watch that scene, I wonder how many times they’ve had that conversation. That’s got to be a level in Steve’s personal hell, and it says a lot about his love for Peggy that he comes back, over and over. I’ve watched two relatives slip away into dementia, and it’s like being gutted with a grapefruit spoon. And Steve keeps coming to visit. As many times as he can, as many times as Peggy needs to see that he came back. That he couldn’t leave his best girl.
And Peggy—even when she’s forgotten that Steve is there, she knows how long it’s been. She’s had a whole life that he wasn’t there for and all those emotions are STILL right there on the surface when she looks at him.
Look at those two. He’s a walking time capsule; 1945 was last year to him and Peggy was his universe in 1945. She’s at the end of a very long life that has been 95% Steve-free. And they look at each other and they are on exactly the same page. They pick up where they left off, every time. The intervening seventy years don’t matter, whether they remember them or not, whether they were awake for them or not. Nothing of substance has changed.
I’m sure Marvel will ship Steve with somebody else, and we know Peggy had kids with someone who wasn’t Steve Rogers. But don’t ever try to tell me Steve and Peggy weren’t the love of each other’s life. Because if you think that, you weren’t paying attention.
I’m assuming that she either has Alzheimer’s or she thought it was a dream until Steve gave her that glass of water.
It seems to be heavily implied that it’s Alzheimer’s (which Peggy had in the comics, too). The conversational reset is something I saw in both my relatives on a fairly regular basis, as well. I even had a “You came back” moment with one because I look a lot like his youngest daughter, who died before I was born. He’d forgotten I existed and had mistaken me for her. That strikes me every time I see this scene—that for Peggy, there’s no difference between mistaking a nurse or a relative for Steve and Steve actually being there. But Steve’s there to watch it happening, and he keeps coming back in spite of how much it obviously hurts him. So what we’re seeing is how they really feel about each other.

Ok a little rant about Star Trek 14
So we all know that (unfortunately) Simon Pegg and Doug Jung are not writing Star Trek 4 and Justin Lin isn’t directing it. It is back to JJ and his crew.
But is it just me that is terrified of what JJ is going to do to Jaylah? We all know about his love for love interest plots and unnecessary nude scenes. I swear to god if he shows Jaylah in her underwear once or reduces her to someone’s girlfriend (Kirks or Scotty’s idc who) I promise you i w i l l r i o t
He might not do this and and he might stick with the beyond theme of hopefulness and keep everything that Pegg and Jung brought to the rebooted trek and make it a great Star Trek movie and make it similar to beyond.
But if he does take the into darkness route (and we all know the rule about the trek films) and does something problematic eg kill of Ben Sulu and/or Demora Sulu for ‘shock factor’ or any of the above I will not rest until I have met him and given him a stern lecture about the morals of trek

ALSO consider eggsy breaking down and telling his mum about kingsman and getting involved and imagine him properly breaking down when he tells her about harry and he just starts sobbing bc he’s just so fucking exhausted, emotionally and physically and he nver really got time to grieve and it hits him like those fucking bullets. and michelle is just. on one hand her son is in love with a man older than his father woulda been, the man who she still blames for lee’s death bt on the other hand harry meant a lot to eggsy, her boy was fucking in love with the old bastard and she couldn’t just tell him not to grieve, couldn’t order him to shut off his feelings. christ knows she’d be a fucking hypocrite if she did. so she hugs him and rocks him and hums to him, old lullabies like lee used to sing when eggsy was a fussy baby. and if she cries a little too, well, she’s fucking earned it, ain’t she? and there’s the unwins, sobbing in the living room floor, hearts broken
I’m literally in tears just imagining this, fuck.
And this could go two ways. The one where Harry doesn’t come back, and Merlin probably finds out that Eggsy told Michelle everything about Kingsman, but he lets it slide because Eggsy has been through so much and his heart aches for the boy. Eggsy takes the place of Galahad and Merlin sees that the light Eggsy used to have in his eyes never really returns and Merlin just wishes he could do something. Eggsy is just kind of on autopilot because the one person who truly believed he was worth something, the man he loved, is gone. And what’s worse is that he thinks Harry died being disappointed in him. He failed the dog test and they fought and Harry told him that they’d sort everything out when he got back and he never came back. He never came back and he left Eggsy there to watch Harry die in his own office.
Or there’s the one where Harry does come back after being away for months. And Michelle finds out somehow. And Michelle is LIVID. She’s had to watch her son fall apart because of Harry being dead and he isn’t dead and I absolutely believe that Michelle could kick Harry’s ass. And Harry would let her. And Harry would try to talk to Eggsy, and maybe Michelle’s let it slip that Eggsy was in love with him and he confronts Eggsy about it and Eggsy just tears up because he never thought he’d get to tell Harry. He never thought Harry would tell him that his feelings were reciprocated and Eggsy cries because he’s so relieved that he’s got his Harry back and everything in the world is still pretty shitty but at least he’s got his Harry back.
