Also check out the term sealioning. To engage in a conversation, you should first believe that the other person is genuinely doing it because they want to reach common ground and not for the lulz/to troll/to exhaust their opponent/to spread their ideas to bystanders. If you have no reason to believe that, you have no reason to waste your time.
