Takanori Aiba 

Hailing from Yokohama, Japan, Takanori Aiba creates “dimensional” works of art combining his knowledge and past experience in maze illustration and architectural work. Aiba incorporates the traditional technique and aesthetic approach that is similarly found in the art of Bonsai grooming.

A giant helium balloon bearing the face of an ojisan (middle-aged man) appeared in the sky in Utsunomiya on Sunday, in an event organized by the Utsunomiya Museum of Art to bring artwork to the public outside museums.

The balloon measures 15 meters in diameter and features the face of a man who lives in the city. The man was selected from 218 applicants.

Here’s my piece inspired by Princess Leia for Gallery 1988’s Star Wars: Art Awakens gallery show and charity auction, a collaboration between Gallery 1988, Disney, LucasFilm, and Bad Robot. Almost everything in this piece is a reference from the original Star Wars trilogy: the symbols of the Rebel Alliance and the Empire, band patches for Max Rebo Band and the Mos Eisley Cantina band, “Rebel scum,” tattoos of Alderaan and Leia’s blaster, modified X-wing pilot gloves, the vest Leia wore on Hoth, her pants from Endor, the chain she used to strangle Jabba, and of course her hair from A New Hope. If you couldn’t tell, I had a lot of fun with this!

Highly Conceptual Woodwork Textured Tattoos Feature Floral And Animal Subjects

Tattoo artist Pony Reinhardt etches powerful and elaborate tattoos of wildlife, floral and natural elements merged with stars and planetary configurations. The expansive body art is similar in texture to that of vintage woodcut etchings, lending an organic feel to the entire artwork. The awarded and accoladed Reinhardt graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art and her work has been featured in the Smithsonian National Gallery of Art. She currently heads the exclusive tattoo studio Tenderfoot Studio in Portland.
